Born 20/03/1989 to Gordon and Linda Peattie and much loved sister to David and Mark Peattie.
At around 1 year old Laura managed to climb out of bed and slide down the stairs. Her Dad and I were patiently waiting for her to reach the living room but as she stepped into the hall sleepy eyed, curls flowing, wearing a wee nightdress with the sun beaming in through the window behind her, it was quite a vision which prompted her Dad to say "aww wee goony" and her nickname was born.
Laura attended Swinton Primary School and Bannerman High School. She was a bright and popular girl and remained friends with many of her school friends into her adult life. Infact, it was on her way to school where she caught the eye of a young man also heading to school. Who would have guessed he was to become the love of her life. His name? John Cox.
Following on from school she attended Coatbridge College and completed her first year in Hairdressing. But Laura felt this career wasn't for her so she changed courses to study in Forensic Science and was planning to become a Scene of Crime Officer. Towards the end of her course Laura and John discovered they were expecting a baby. They became proud and devoted parents to Aiden Michael Cox on 30/06/2011.
In November 2012 we discovered Lauras life was to take another pathway when she was diagnosed with a life limiting brain tumour. Cancer, brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy didn't stop Laura. She wouldnt let it. She fought to live every moment of every day, till the day she couldnt fight any longer. She dealt with everything with dignity and great strength and was truly an inspiration to all who knew her. She went into remission in the summer of 2015.
In July 2015 Laura was dealt a further devastating blow to be told her cancer was active again. Further treatment began but in August, Laura and her family were informed she only had a very short time to live.
John proposed to Laura and their wedding was organised within 48 hours taking place on 29/08/2015. It was quite a feat but we all look back on it as a very happy time where two families became one and celebrations lasted almost a week.
During the last year, Laura fought to keep her life. She made sure we all knew how much she loved us and we returned that love every moment of every precious day. She was cared for at home by John, Pamela, Madelaine, John, Granny Bessie, Granda John, Mark, Gordon and me, her Mum.
But sometimes very hard and difficult decisions have to be made. Laura was admitted into the Marie Curie Centre in Stobhill where she was to enjoy the last weeks of her life with those who loved her the most. Her eyes would light up when we were on the patio where she would sit in the sun and look out at the Campsies. But mostly she enjoyed the company of friends and relatives who came to visit. It was there she passed away on 10/09/2016 with John, Pamela, Madelaine, John, Gordon, Mark,Nina, David, Lesley, Granny Bessie, Granda John and I.
